Domain forwarding is the process of redirecting one domain to another. This can be used when you purchase multiple domains and want to direct them all to a single website, or if you own domains with different extensions (.com, .net, .org, etc.) and wish to forward them to your primary domain.

It is possible to forward domains to another URL either directly or with masking. The behavior changes depending on the type of forwarding.

  • Direct Forwarding (301/302 Redirect): This means permanently or temporarily redirecting the old domain to the new domain. Users will see the new URL in their browser after being redirected. For example, if site1.com is redirected to site2.com, when site1.com is clicked, site2.com will appear in the browser.
  • Masked Forwarding: Although users are redirected to the new URL, they still see the old URL in their browser. For example, users who click on site1.com are actually taken to site2.com, but site1.com remains displayed in the browser. This method is disadvantageous for SEO and is generally not preferred.

  • If the domain you are redirecting is to be directed to a specific subpage, you can also use the “Directory” section for the redirection target. For example, if the redirection will be to https://www.site2.com/blog, you should enter https://www.site2.com in the “Target” section and “/blog” in the “Directory” section. If no directory redirection is to be made, there is no need to make any changes in the “Directory” section.
